PHYTOPLANKTON INTERNSHIP

Internship Description:

 

The Back Bay Science Center has partnered with the California Department of Public Health & Environmental Management Branch for their Biotoxin Monitoring Program to track toxic plankton blooms occurring along the coast of California. Additionally, CoSEE West has implemented the HAB (Harmful Algal Bloom) Watch Program consisting of a community network of organizations and institutes located in the Southern California area to collect data on patterns of plankton blooms.

The phytoplankton internship position requires experience with phytoplankton identification and sampling techniques.

Skills Required:  

  • Must be 18 years or older 

  • Ability to lift at least 40 lbs

  • Willingness to get wet and dirty

  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team

  • Ability to take initiative and be reliable

  • Enthusiasm and passion for environmental conservation and preservation

  • Experience with phytoplankton identification and general lab techniques
