Coastal Cleanup Day
The 2021 event will be modified due to Covid-19 restrictions. We will have very limited capcity for our Shellmaker Island efforts, and we will not be conducting on-water cleanups. Please contact Kathy Sheridan for more information @ Kathleen.Sheridan@wildlife.ca.gov
Please note: This event is for ages 12+. Anyone under 18 will need an adult chaperone.
There is still a possibility that the event will need to be cancelled or modified further, dependent on changing Covid-19 restrictions.
For more opportunity with land based cleanups of the Bay, contact the Newport Bay Conservancy
Thank you to all of our volunteers who participated and helped in September 2019 to clean up the Upper Newport Bay! We recorded a total of 902 volunteers at the land and water based clean up sites combined, and an estimated 15,692 lbs. of trash and recyclables removed. On behalf of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, OC Parks, the Newport Bay Conservancy, and the California Coastal Commission thank you for keeping our estuaries, beaches, waterways, and oceans clean! We look forward to seeing you again next year. There are 52 sites within Orange County to participate in this annual event, in addition to numerous sites throughout California.
